@admin – you should temporarily disable account registration so you can wean off all these fake accounts.

Once somebody makes a fake Brian Krebs account, I think they've gone too far.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't this be very unprecedented? It would also cut of any potential new users from signing up.

I'm actually in support of this idea for the time being. It was funny when there were a couple of fake accounts mixed in with real users joining, but if you look at the flow of new users signing up, it's a constant stream of joker after joker.

It would be unprecedented but I think it's the only course of action available to us.

Hmm, I believe you are correct. Why not enable email verification instead?

If I'm not mistaken, it's already enabled.

Oh. Are there any other alternative solutions?

How long would we disable account registration for?

Until you stop, lol.

I would support this if it happened for like a week or so. I'd like new people to keep finding out about this site.

If the account registration was disabled for a week or if "joker" accounts continued showing up for a week?

Yeah, that's the idea. I wouldn't want this site to be privatized from the public for any length of time, ideally. This is just a measure we need to take.

What?

What?

I think he's asking if you want the accounts that Longo (the OP) talked about to keep showing up for another week… I guess?

I'm asking if emery wants to stop new user registration for one week or if she suggests waiting one week to see if this trend of "joker" accounts continues.

If that's the case, then of course not. I'd prefer more actual people discover this site. I'm always a proponent of high-quality discussion. One person talking back and forth doesn't emulate that.

I'm willing to try cancelling user registration for one week to see if that improves things around here.

Ok. Hopefully things improve.

I've taken this into consideration and you'll now notice that you can no longer create a new account on this forum… for one week. We'll see how it goes.

Yikes I've caused some controversy, kek. Maybe it'll go good, hopefully it does.
